Messages from the External Evaluators:

Students are good in applications and I am truly impressed as an evaluator!

For several years I have been an evaluator of problem based learning projects and research projects of UMCSAWM postgraduate program students.

I’m truly impressed by the standards of the graduates from this program simply because of their confidence in subject matter.

Nearly all the students have demonstrated their very good potential in infrastructure development for water resource management and a thorough knowledge in not only about the development work and environmental factors but also how information is taken from the stakeholders.  The students are good in the application of analysis methods considering the entire system as a whole.

Student confidence shown during project presentations and question time reflected that they have undergone a very good transformation of the students.  With my experience in studying for Master’s Degree in overseas I have no hesitation to say that the UMCSAWM program is one of the top water master’s degree programs in the world.

I’m happy to say that the UMCSAWM at UoM is producing competent water practitioners of very high standards.

Great Contributions of the UMCSAWM transform the students as Problem Solving Decision Makers!

Being a PBL and research project evaluator of the UMCSAWM, I have great pleasure in expressing that I had the opportunity to evaluate an excellent set of water practitioners who without any fear can be assigned to execute water resources infrastructure development projects.

The students of UMCSAWM demonstrated that they have turned out as very confident graduates who have the capability to find practical solutions to water resource management problems using a rational approach.

In the Q&A sessions I realised that the students were well above average and that they had perfectly transformed to perform as good decision making water practitioners.  I thank the centre for the great job they continue to perform consistently.

As an external evaluator I have noted the commendable efforts by the resource persons of the academic program.  I take this opportunity to congratulate on the centre’s great contributions to enhance knowledgeable water engineers who would serve the region with confidence.

Students have confidence and ability to solve real life site problems

I had the opportunity to work as an evaluator of Problem Based Learning (PBL) activities related to Master degree programme in Water Resources Engineering and Management, conducted at Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management, University of Moratuwa.

With my years of field experience, I am happy to say that almost all students exhibited their confidence and ability to solve real-life site problems with the incorporation of a scientific approach. The backbone of this scientific approach could be attributed to the course module contents and the exposure received during field problem identifications and in the search for solutions.  Their analytical knowledge to evaluate real site problems was reflected during their PBL activities and presentations.

There is no doubt that the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management fulfils a national need of the hour by producing competent resource persons in the water sector who could rise to face the immense challenge of saving the finite fresh water resources.

A remarkable demonstration of enhancing knowledge and potential

I was an external evaluator for Problem Based Learning and Research Projects of UMCSAWM students. It is worth mentioning that the students were able to achieve the required standards and confidence in subject matter.

Students have remarkably demonstrated their acquired knowledge and potential in Infrastructure Development for Water Resource Management. Augmented knowledge about environment and stakeholders were well instrumented for them in the entire system approach.

Students were very much confident during the research and project presentations. It is a clear indication of effective transformation of the students as matured practicing water managers in any sector.

I’m glad to state that the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia water management at UoM has proven the capability to produce competent Water Practitioners with very high standards and accomplished with problem solving capability.

Empowering to apply theoretical knowledge with confidence

It is a pleasure for me to serve as an external evaluator of postgraduate thesis and conduct viva examinations of students pursuing master’s degree studies at the UNESCO – Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management.

Since its inception, the centre is actively involved in offering outstanding postgraduate programs with education focussed on problem based water research and leading to high quality PG Degrees. The teaching and research programs of Madanjeet Singh Water Management Centre serve to develop and synthesize new theoretical and practice based knowledge in the field of water engineering. Through regular progress reviews conducted by the centre, I have clearly seen that the conducive research and teaching environment enable students evolve with the capability to tackle water problems.

The field based stakeholder consultations, systematic problem solving methods taught in class, and the opportunity to identify and solve problems, empower UMCSAWM students to apply the theoretical knowledge with confidence.  During viva evaluations students of PG program present the knowledge and skills learnt during the course of study with confidence and this is a great achievement.

The centre’s research excellence is highlighted by the high quality thesis and research publications done by the students on a variety of topics in the field of water engineering.

Young students have transformed as innovative and technology based decision makers

One great experiences in my carrier is the student evaluation responsibility entrusted to me as an external evaluator at the viva examinations of PBL student projects carried out at UMCSAWM.  This was a very satisfying responsibility.  Students who demonstrate the use of GIS tools to solve a wide variety of projects based on correct modelling approach was a common event at the UMCSAWM PBL evaluations.

I admire the way young students have transformed as innovative and technology based decision makers who can realise stakeholder requirements.  Experience with the correct use of GIS technology to arrive at highly technical solutions in water resource management is a very valuable opportunity received by the students.  With great satisfaction I noted the high capacities and confidence of students shown while presenting their own project work.

I believe that not only the PBL learning process but also the up-to-date resource availability at the UMCSAWM Centre are the reasons for this convincing transformation of postgraduate students.
